However, most people and resources never actually tell you "how" to turn a networking event into a "successful" networking event. If you are like most people the thought of walking into a room where you don't know anyone is frightening - especially if you are expected to walk around, introduce yourself, and strike up conversations with complete strangers. But networking events are critical resources and you need to make them successful uses of your time. Overcoming a Layoff

"A" is for Attitude!

Continuing our series with renowned career coach and author Joe Murphy, in this segment we will be discussing "A", or Attitude, which is the fourth segment in his IMPACT career series.

In order to stand out from the crowd, and land the job your really want, you need to put forth a positive attitude. Joe gives us a number of ways to achieve and maintain this state of mind, but primarily suggests that you develop 6 CAR stories. CAR is an acronym and stands for Characteristics, Actions, and Results. In other words, pulling 6 stories from your past experiences that demonstrate a CAR. Each CAR story should be different and should highlight a different aspect of your strengths - creativity, analytical skills, teamwork, leadership, etc. Having these CAR stories will help you build and maintain confidence as you go through the interview process and will properly highlight these strengths to potential employers. "P" = Perseverance!

This week we continue following Joe Murphy, renowned career coach and author, through his IMPACT career series. This week we discuss "P", or Perseverance. Searching for a job can be a frustrating, nail biting, energy draining experience. However, as we discussed last week, hiring managers hire those that exude creativity and enthusiasm. That means you have to really concentrate on keeping your energy level high. Joe outlines steps that you can take to assure that this happens. Hint: create a plan, work the plan, and reward yourself constantly!

Also, in this show we spend a good amount of time talking about the ABC's of networking. Studies show that MOST people find a job through networking, so it is important to really understand how to do this effectively.
